知床半島の羅臼町にある民宿「鷲の宿」
宿の名前は「鷲」ですが、野生のシマフクロウが観察できるスポットとして有名です
実際は餌付けされたシマフクロウが日没後になると、宿の前の川に設置された給餌場に訪れるという仕掛け
そういう意味では、厳密には”野生”ではないかもしれないですが、“限りなく野生に近い状態”で観察できるのがここの特徴（もちろん有料）
基本的には毎日現れるそうですが、日によって1羽だけだったり親子だったり家族だったり数はマチマチ
わたしのときは幸い親シマフクロウとひな2羽の計3羽が現れてくれました
シマフクロウに害のない特殊な照明を当てているため撮影できるのですが、わたしのレンズではこれが限界…鳥は本当に難しい…
翼長180cm前後の世界最大級のフクロウ
北海道には約140羽しか生息しないという絶滅危惧種
とても貴重です

'Washi-no-yado' literally means Eagle's house, but in fact the guesthouse is Blakiston’s fish owl Observatory located in Rausu-cho town, Shiretoko region, Hokkaido, Japan. Blakiston's fish owl is designated as an endangered species, about 140 fish owls are living in Hokkaido nowadays. In Washi-no-yado about 4-5 fish owls out of 140 are coming every night for feeding themselves at the feeding spot, placed in the river flowing in front of Washi-no-yado. Nowhere to see the fish owls except here throughout Japan. We can take photos by using the special lights in the dark night. But I couldn't take photos well because of my low quality lens.
